Fear of Retribution is Voice of Silence

Whether in politics or in business or in community, this fear of retribution, from the systems we have created, is real. That fear makes many to wriggle their way in or out to continue operating in a survival mode. Only the activists dare to step outside their comfort zones risking everything they have to change the world to become better for all.

The systems that we have created and that we have put in place and to operate as we would have hoped, lets us down sometime.

We need a wake-up call. While these systems are necessary and do their job quite amicably, they are not organic or agile to respond to the fast changing world of 21st century. These systems while bringing sanity in an otherwise chaotic world, often fail to serve the very humanity that created them.

Humanity should be asking this question: what are we really here for and why these systems are important? If survival of the humanity on the only planet we know to exist is our answer, is it not the time now to redefine the importance of these systems that we have created and put in place to have that implicit goal? If not, why bother with these systems?

What we don’t say when we are asked for an opinion or what we frame as an answer should not lie in that fear of retribution from these systems. The answers we seek and the solutions we implement should lie within this boundary of serving the humanity for a greater good.

If there is an imminent threat to the planet we live in, but not to any particular nation, then the actions that we take should not be hinging on the fear of retribution by any nation – rich or poor, powerful or not. The voice of silence should not be perceived as an approval of some action, but should be perceived as fear of retribution that needs remedial action. The leaders should strive hard to remove the imminent threats that the systems impose to make those voices heard.

Given that we are not perfect,

why not progress towards one goal of keeping this planet habitable as an ongoing and non-compromising goal, than having any other goals per se that invariably may seem to constitute a short-term goal, or goals of any entities smaller than the world we live in whether conceived at an individual level or community level or at national level?

If everyone agrees to have that goal as a non-compromising goal and no system to impose penalties for those who work to support that goal, then there is no voice of silence and hence no fear of retribution from the systems irrespective of who created them or who have put that in place for it operate for us.
