Vedashaastra Poshini is a unique organization that has been providing free lunches continuously for the past 82 years to those students who are engaged in studying the Vedashaastra in the traditional manner and attire adhering to traditional dress code. In a traditional manner, they are required to recite Veda, Upanishad and Bhagvad Gita before the start of lunch session and till the end of lunch session, they are required to fine tune the recital of Sanskrit shlokaas by way of playing a game of ‘Anthaakshari’. This has been the way of having lunch at this institution for the past 82 years..

This institution was started by those who were interested in Vedashaastra in 1921 and with their generosity enough land was acquired to ensure that the lunch preparation at the institution becomes self-sufficient and is done solely from the produce from the land. However, the land was acquired in 1974 as per the new laws that were enacted by the Government of India and the free lunch program had to depend on the generosity of those who would come forward to ensure the continuity of the program without a break.
