Complex problems made simple

This is NOT one of those many things you have heard about or seen around in book shops and video stores – a quick fix way of teaching you something saying that you could learn anything without difficulties. Those intentions might be noble, but methods sometimes fall way short of the intentions.

How could that be true? It is very simple. Many a times, when we get the pain we treat the pain with pain reliever medications. They don’t cure the pain as such, but cure the symptoms. It’s a quick-fix way those medications to let you get on with life when actual healing takes more time.

When we get used to such treatments and show our interest in demanding for more of those, the cycle continues. The cycle continues to produce more of the same and they get varied as symptoms vary. We finally end up with complex solutions to complex problems while overlooking the simple solutions to cure the same symptoms.

Let me explain this through an example. Let’s examine the number of ways in which the medical science has addressed the heart disease. It varies from less invasive process and all the way to most intrusive process of bypass surgery. Every process, whether it is less invasive or more intrusive, is complex as it is a question of life or death.

While medical science addresses the cure, it also keeps saying that the fundamental thing to do, after it treats a heart disease, is to do a lifestyle change. My question is why after? Why not before? The lifestyle changes that are being asked are nothing but to keep an eye on the diet and keep working out through exercises. Is this difficult to do? Is it not simple to see that there is a simple solution to something that became a complex problem? I whole heartedly recommend watching an episode of ‘You: The owner’s manual’ that got aired on OWN channel. Oprah’s OWN network is actually your OWN network, provided you make the commitment to turn away from entertainment to mix the television viewing with little bit of learning through these types of educational channels.

How about doing even better than that? Why not simply follow the principles of COL to understand the complex problems in a simpler and a more philosophical way? In the health example, what makes you to feed into a negative growth of ill-health by subscribing to foods that should be consumed moderately than to consuming it regularly? It is that basic understanding that is needed to manage the complexity created intentional or un-intentional. When you break down the foods that you should be avoiding, the episode listed only four things to watch out for in the foods – sugar, saturated fat, trans fat and no whole-grain.

How was this done? Commute the circle once again to understand that, but this time keep in mind that you are doing it for ‘health’ reasons. Acquire all the information you can find and apply it to your situation. Evaluate the knowledge so gained by connecting and collaborating with other knowledgeable sources that you can get hold of. Then do the thing that you feel right and discover the benefits that you are able to achieve. Make it a point to go around the circle more times if you need to achieve more to a point where you can impart the knowledge to others. That was the distillation process to needed to arrive at those four things that needed to be watched in the foods we consume. Is this hard to follow – a simple process of commuting the circle?

Every so-called complex problems can be tackled by this simple method to achieve the desired understanding of the problem. That valuable understanding will translate to discovering simpler solutions. You miss one process, your results can become questionable.

So, why do you want to leave it to guess-work by cutting corners when you can be sure of what you can achieve with this simple process? We keep hearing about KISS (keep it simple, stupid!), made simple books, quick-fix methods and so many others that are trying to make you achieve the same. But COL gives you the knowledge of how to go about making it simple – for you!
